The latest Eskom application to increase its tariffs by 53 or 60% is a bitter pill to swallow for the average consumer.

Labouring under its inability to plan ahead, the electricity provider now wants to increase tariffs to consumers by up to 60%.

According to a recent report,

So, Joe Average pays taxes, a portion of which is allocated to Eskom. He/she is then also billed for using Eskom power. Not only that, he/she is paying way in excess of the cost of producing electricity.
If the economy is really growing so comfortably, why is the consumer still paying for industry’s electricity? Isn’t it time the margins between what industry pays and what the consumer pays were narrowed?

Consumers are already muttering bitterly about the huge bonuses paid to Eskom officials and the apparent mismanagement within its ranks. A fresh round of power cuts and a whopping increase in the price of power is certainly not going to go down well with the masses.
