The Local Government system in South Africa continues to grow from strength to strength. The objective of Local Government is not only to render basic services but also to work towards sustainable development through Integrated Development Planning. The Central District is a critical gateway to Africa through the SADC. Our Location is very strategic. We have moved towards ensuring that conditions in all our municipalities are conducive for investors’ confidence. Through community participation, crime levels are low hence the growth in the economy of our towns within our district. The Central District continues to be a hub of activities such as the International Air Shows and Heritage celebrations.

The level of infrastructure development in the district creates unique and strong economic opportunities for both and international investors of which Eco-Tourism is the most viable in the district. Other sectors include mining (gold, lime and diamonds) and the agricultural sector (well established). Hence the development of agro-industry as a priority in the district, Mafikeng International Airport, which has been declared an industrial development zone, and the recording studios are critical institutions which are being further developed to improve economic trends in the district.
